Handheld 3D Scanning with the DPI-8X SR for Modern Mining Geoscience

Chris Ahern, Marketing Manager - DotProduct Boston

Mining has been an excellent application for our handheld 3D scanning technology since its inception. As truly portable solutions, the DPI-8X and DPI-8X SR can be easily deployed to areas inaccessible with other technologies, and fit nicely into the world of mining for 3D documentation, analysis, and accident reconstruction. Please see below for some excellent images of handheld 3D capture in dark, congested mining environments. These photos were captured in South Africa with a team from Wits University and HORTS Geo-Solutions.

However, in our latest test work in this field, we are now outside of tight underground spaces, and instead testing the capabilities for 3D documentation, distance measurement, volume measurement, and analysis of mining core. We have partnered with Imago in this testing:

"Imago is a platform to extract knowledge from geoscientific imagery. It consolidates images from any source, transforms them into meaningful insights and then connects them to the appropriate geological or mining activity. It is part of a new generation of digital solutions for modern mining."

Please see below for a video from their experiments with our technology:
And here for a sample scan shown in Sketchfab:

It's always great to see different uses for our tech being put to the test. Stay tuned for more from Imago. For more info on their technology and applications, please visit www.imago.live.
