Now Supporting the Trimble DA2 GNSS Receiver

Picture
Picture
Picture
Today we're very glad to formally announce the release of support for the Trimble DA2 high-accuracy GNSS receiver in Dot3D 6.0. By pairing this powerful hardware with the latest Dot3D (Prime) software, users are now able to leverage real-time GNSS/RTK trajectories while scanning in Dot3D. This GNSS information is then intelligently applied to Dot3D's optimization, automatically improving accuracy for large-scale outdoor scans without survey control, and adding automatic geo-referencing options to all outdoor scans. The Dot3D + DA2 kit shown above is currently available in central Europe from our partners at Laserscanning Europe. For additional purchasing options, please contact us.
More Info from Laserscanning Europe
Dot3D Prime will also be adding support for other third party high-accuracy GNSS systems in the near future. Please stay tuned for updates soon.

Introducing Dot3D Prime

Picture
So, what is this "Dot3D Prime" we keep talking about anyway? Well, we also have some important name changes to make you aware of. Please see below:
  1. "Dot3D Pro for iOS" is now Dot3D Pro (remains iOS only)
  2. "Dot3D Pro" is now Dot3D Prime (now available for all 3 platforms)
We apologize for any initial confusion, but do expect this change to simplify the Dot3D product mix moving forward. Dot3D Pro is now the standard package for embedded cameras (iOS) and Dot3D Prime is the all-encompassing package for users working with external 3D cameras or external GNSS hardware.

Ranking Dot3D: 16 Best 3D Scanner Apps

11/22/2024

Picture
It's sure great to see Dot3D ranking so highly in this recent article on "Best 3D Scanner Apps (Android & iPhone): 16 Apps We Love". Very well put too:

"Dot3D is a robust 3D scanning app that yields...highly accurate, color 3D point cloud data – so accurate that precise measurements can be captured and saved. Internet connectivity isn’t required, as all processing is done on the device. While the list of features is impressive, we were really taken by just how large scans can be (see image above). This is a definite plus for professional applications such as forensic investigation, construction, and archaeology, among others." Agreed! Thanks ALL3DP!

Picture
Update time! Today we're glad to share the official release of our latest update to Dot3D for iOS, Windows, and Android. Yes, Android! We're very excited to be back in sync across all three platforms with the latest and greatest version 5.3.6. Read on to find out more about all this update entails, including automatic scan recovery, the return of Design-Compare, the new DPv3 point cloud format, the new tracking initialization stage on iOS, new annotation updates, extensive under-the-hood improvements, and our first Google Play Store release.

-The DotProduct Team-
UPGrade Now

1. Scan Recovery | Auto-Backup During Scanning

Picture
Never lose a scan again! Dot3D 5.3 now has you fully covered in the unfortunate case of mid-scan interruptions, popups, crashes, etc. We realize these situations do happen, and can be extremely frustrating, especially on very large scans. So, we're very glad to now include automatic backup/recovery during scanning for all versions of Dot3D 5.3 & up. Scan with confidence!
See it in Action

2. Design Compare | Align & Compare to 3D CAD

Picture
Design-Compare is back! The return of this popular feature (previously available in Dot3D 4) allows users to register and compare Dot3D scans directly to 3D CAD models (in OBJ format). All-new improvements include 3-point registration (in addition to 3-plane and 2-cylinder) and the ability to manually fine-tune registrations afterwards. Design-Compare is now available in Dot3D 5.3 & up.
See it in Action

3. DP v3 | New Streamable Point Cloud Format

Picture
How can the highly compressed, ultra-fast DP file format get even better? Make it streamable! The new DP v3 point cloud format will now load truly instantly into Dot3D 5.3 & up, for even your largest scans. Please keep in mind that Dot3D version 5.3+ is also required for viewing DP v3 files, so make sure to update all your devices, and if you're bringing your .DP scans into third party applications outside Dot3D, make sure to continue to utilize "DP compatibility mode".

P.S. Calling all DP import software partners! We will soon be launching an intiative to update all of our DLL partners with this new instant file format. Please stay tuned. We would love to avoid the need for compatibility mode in your app!
See it in Action

4. Scene Initialization | Prepare your iOS Tracking

Picture
"Scene initialization" is also new to Dot3D 5.3+ on iOS. Here's what it's about:
  1. It will help improve the accuracy and reliability of your iPhone/iPad LiDAR scan data by establishing more consistent 3D tracking before you even begin your scan.
  2. The whole process only takes a few seconds to complete.
  3. Just follow the prompts to move around your scene.
  4. Don't move too quickly or you'll have to start over.
  5. Once the green bar has filled up, you're ready to start.
  6. This is only relevant to iOS LiDAR users. Android/Windows / Realense/DPI users will not need to do this (although DPI kits do of course have their own different warmup requirements to follow).
See it in Action

5. New Annotation Options | Crosshair & Exports

Picture
Scan-time annotations are now more precise via a new crosshair overlay during capture, and Dot3D annotations can now be exported to standard control file formatting, in both xyz and yxz order, and to .json, .csv, or .txt formats.

6. Dot3D for Android | Now on Google Play Store

Picture
We are BACK on Android! Dot3D 5.3 is now available on the Google Play Store.
